April 25th - Sacred Heart’s 9th Annual Blue and Gold Gala will take place on April 25! Tickets are available for purchase through April 19 and must be bought in advance. To purchase tickets, please visit our website or stop by our table after Mass this weekend, where the Friends of Sacred Heart School will also be selling Gala 50/50 tickets. The Friends will be available again next weekend after Masses for additional ticket sales and will offer a preview of the high-end raffle baskets that will be auctioned at the Gala. All proceeds from this special evening will support our school.
April 25/26 - After each mass on April 25 and 26, members of the Knights of Columbus will be conducting their annual fund raiser for People with Intellectual Disabilities (Tootsie Roll Drive). The monies collected from this event are donated to support local charities, including Burlington County ARC, Holy Innocents Society of the Trenton Diocese and the New Jersey Special Olympics. Please visit with a member after mass to contribute to this cause and receive your tootsie roll. Your assistance in aiding the Intellectually Disabled
is greatly appreciated.

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,
The Diocese of Trenton has been blessed with hundreds of wonderful priests throughout the last two centuries. To continue these blessings, I am announcing a Called By Name
campaign for next weekend, April 25 & 26. Fittingly, that weekend is also Good Shepherd Weekend. As your Bishop, I am asking you to prayerfully reflect on anyone that you may have encountered in the parish, at home, or even yourself, who you think may have a vocational call to the priesthood. Throughout the Diocese next weekend, our priests will be preaching on
vocations and the call to the priesthood. Cards will be distributed throughout the pews and churches which will enable you to nominate or recommend a young man, with his contact
information, whom you think might be called to the priesthood.
After gathering all the submitted names and contact information, the Vocations Office will reach out to them and invite them to a special day of prayer and reflection on June 12, the Solemn Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, to open their hearts and minds to God’s potential call to the priesthood. This initiative is near and dear to my own heart. While I was President of Catholic University, this campaign proved to be effective in leading many young men to enter
the seminary and eventually to be ordained. I invite you to prayerfully participate in this holy effort.

Pope Francis told us, “The family is a community of love where each of us learns to relate to others and to the world around us.” I trust that each of us holds such an ideal - ‘a community of love’ - in high regard and that we strive to make it a reality every day. However, it is not easy. There are many outside factors that may undermine and challenge our efforts from time to time. Over the next three book/movie projects, we will look at this situation through the lens of good stories.
The first one will be John Steinbeck’s wonderful novella, The Pearl. In The Pearl, the struggles of a poor pearl-diver, Kino, come to light when he finds a massive pearl. At first, Kino and his wife, Juana, feel that their precious discovery will provide for them the means to escaping their impoverished state. Soon enough, the obvious promise of wealth attracts greedy dealers, a manipulative priest, jealous villagers and a hypocritical doctor, who all try to cheat Kino and Juana out of their perceived good fortune. What the couple
find is something much more valuable than material treasure.
The Pearl, which is truly a modern parable, can provide for us both a warning and a lesson about what is most important in the lives of our families. I encourage you to participate in The Pearl project. At just 97 pages, it is a short read that will have you riveted by its powerfully rich and complex story.
So, begin your reading of The Pearl, and save the date of Sunday, May 24th (2:30pm) at the Sacred Heart School Library, where we will watch the film, The Pearl. This film is an Academy Award nominee and Golden Globe-winning movie that stars Richard Harris (in his final role) and Lucas Haas. Our open discussion about the book and movie should be a meaningful one.

WASHINGTON (CNS) — Various Catholic agencies are collecting donations to aid with the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, as people flee to escape Russian bombing and shelling. Here are some places to donate. This list is not exhaustive.
The international Caritas confederation is collecting funds to help Caritas Ukraine. In the United States, that is through Catholic Relief Services. Internationally, you can donate through Caritas Internationalis.
The Ukrainian Catholic Archeparchy of Philadelphia also has a link to donate.
Two pontifical agencies also are taking donations for Ukraine: Catholic Near East Welfare Association and Aid to the Church in Need. Internationally, Aid to the Church can be reached here.
The Knights of Columbus launched the Ukraine Solidarity Fund for humanitarian needs in Ukraine and through refugee sites in Poland.
Donations can also be made to Jesuit Refugee Service to support the agency’s work with those forced to flee conflict in Europe.
